“My grandfather built his house himself. Every brick, every floorboard touched by his hands. His signature inside stud walls, behind wallpaper, on the underside of the mantelpiece. Times were different back then, I’m told. In those days everyone built their house themselves…”

The House of My Grandfather is a story about visiting a grandparent, and is inspired by those dreams that keep on unfolding in odd directions until they’re much bigger than they looked from the outside.

It was published and performed by Liars’ League. Liars’ League run a series of spoken word nights in a bunch of different cities around the world. You can go along and hear people who know how to read things read things that were written by people who know how to write things.

The House of My Grandfather by Krishan Coupland is marked CC0 1.0. As with a lot of my short fiction, I have released this story into the public domain. This means you can use it any way you like, including making a profit from it. Let me know if you do anything interesting with it!
