Well

There was a well at a garden centre Maisie and Donald made me go to one time, and Donald gave me twenty pence and told me to throw it in and make a wish. I didn't want to. I wanted to keep it because I'd been saving up for a phone (which they wouldn't let me have, but if I bought it myself they couldn't do anything) and I only needed a few pounds more and it would be a waste to throw it away.

Go on, said Maisie. You can wish for annnnything you like. It was specially stupid because throwing money away in a well was the exact opposite of what would get me a phone. Or anything. But they still wanted me to do it.

So I pretended. I made like I'd thrown the coin and I even stayed to watch it fall and then I jammed my hands in my pockets and went back to Maisie and Donald where they were waiting for me and I still had the coin in my pocket and they never knew. They never even guessed.

Don't tell us what you wished for, said Maisie. Otherwise it might not come true.
