I'm watching an old episode of Raven. Which is a game show. A fantasy one. Raven is the name of the guy who hosts it, and there are all these dumb little bits where he pretends to fight an evil wizard, or where he pretends to consult a fortune teller about what to do next.

But I like it anyway. You can tell the kids on it are just ordinary kids. They have to win rings by swimming across lakes or climbing trees. Solving riddles. Obstacle courses. Sometimes dodging monsters in dark brown cloaks.

The thing about it all is that it's at least a little bit real. Like one time when a girl fell off a rope ladder and injured her leg and couldn't carry on. Raven sent her home through a magic portal, and the rest of the kids just had to do their challenges without her.

It sounds stupid. Maybe it is. But it's better than all the other game shows on TV. The ones where nothing matters. Where you still win even if you lose.
