“For days the traps sit empty, their wire mouths gaping. The more time passes the more foolish they look to you. What creature of any intelligence would fall for such an obvious ploy? Still you switch the bait religiously…”

When You Lived Inside The Walls is a short story about rats and traps and family and love, which in no way accurately represents my true feelings about rodents. Or about family. Rats are actually lovely creatures.

It was published by The Masters Review, this story also appeared in (and provided a title for) my chapbook of short stories, published by Stonewood Press. It’s a real handsome little book, and includes a flyleaf with a print of a particularly vicious rat trap.

When You Lived Inside The Walls by Krishan Coupland is marked CC0 1.0. As with a lot of my short fiction, I have released this story into the public domain. This means you can use it any way you like, including making a profit from it. Let me know if you do anything interesting with it!
