“Atrophy” is a short text extracted from a piece of creative nonfiction I wrote during my time at Staffordshire University, with a degree of added interactivity. The piece as a whole was about derelict buildings, and a phase in my life during which I spent a great deal of time exploring them. The featured section in particular focused on an abandoned holiday park (now completely demolished) on the Isle Of Wight. I last visited the site in 2010.
The finished project was put together using Notepad++. It can be read freely online here. If you’d like to know more about urban exploration or what happens to buildings after they are abandoned, Wikipedia and the forum 28dayslater.co.uk are both good starting points.
